You probably couldn't tell I've been away for a few days. My blogging is so amazingly sporadic at the moment. It's a combination of being super busy and only wanting to blog if I've got something interesting.
This is definitely interesting! I got to go to Hop Farm Festival at the weekend! I got there Thursday and came back Monday morning. Technically I was working but the band I look after are all amazing, amazing friends of mine so I feel like quite the fraud. This is also the bit where I tell you I've never stayed overnight at a festival and I've never slept in a tent! Mon dieu!
Clearly I don't own camping appropriate clothes so I had to go shopping. Seeing as I was working and needed to carry a smallish, yet heavy hair and makeup kit, I wanted to fit all my clothes into a small gym sized rucksack. That meant taking one pair of shoes, one dress, two sweaters, one pair of jeans, three tops, pyjamas, a big airy scarf, pocket mac and tons of socks. Even my makeup was just foundation, concealer, lip & cheek tint, eyeliner and mascara. Hair: a daily dose of VO5 hair powder to keep the volume up. And it was perfect!
Friday kicked off with the brilliant Mary Epworth followed by some George Clinton with Parliament and the Funkadelics. Then I went to see the Futureheads, back to see some Dr John and I caught some Howling Bells in there as well. I have to admit, I didn't see tons of bands on the Friday because I got to hang out in the green room (teepee) quite a bit and just have a brilliant time talking to people. I did catch some Peter Gabriel in the evening on the way back to my tent.
Saturday was slightly more eventful. We started with Bellowhead, moved onto The Datsuns, then managed Gary Numan, some Damien Rice, Maximo Park, a bit of Bob Dylan and Primal Scream. We had planned for the whole ProgBus to meet for Indie Disco after Primal Scream but we ended up just going back to the actual ProgBus for chilli instead.
Sunday: SUEDE!!!!!!!! SUEDE!!!!!!!!! SUEDE!!!!!!! I've loved them since I was 15 and I've never seen them live so shimmying up to be a couple people from the front has been the highlight of my life! I actually went mute and I'm still in a Suede coma. SUEDE!!!!!!! Yes, I was excited about Gilbert O'Sullivan but the sound guys totally messed up his set so the highlight of my life is still SUEDE!!!! I did see Richard Oakes backstage before the show but I was clearly being far too cool to actually say anything. *dies* I also got to check out Taj Mahal, Gruff Rhys, The Sheepdogs and The Psychedelic Furs but, let's face it, the whole day was about SUEDE!!!!!!! Did I mention that I got to see SUEDE????!!!!!
I promise I'll be a lot more emotionally stable at the next festival.
My friend, Wendy, and I also enjoyed looking through a selection of knitted finger puppets for nearly an hour trying to choose one for each of the band. Here they are for you...
